All my career I’ve worked for large corporate companies and a few years ago, I decided to start my own Internet business while still working full-time.
The ‘job for life’ motto no longer applies and I was concerned that the large corporate could easily just say, “Andrew we no longer need your services”.
If that situation were to happen, I knew that by finding out how to make blog and start my own internet business, it would help me make some income.
In my full-time role, as the Head of IT, I worked long hours and was very well rewarded for it. But that didn’t stop me putting in many hours each week to make my Internet business take off.
I would listen to or read about internet marketing gurus best tips and ideas, while travelling to and from work.
When I travelled on business to other places around the UK, I started to travel by train so I could work on my own internet business.
When I was “away” on business I would work in the hotel rooms in the evenings.
I would work at weekends.
I started making several blogs and then I looked at Affiliate Marketing.
Affiliate Marketing is where you sell someone else’s product or service and earn a percentage of the sale price. The percentage ranges from 5% to 100%.
When you first start, Affiliate Marketing commissions probably won’t amount to enough to make the work worth your while.
This might be true. It was for me.
I was working hours and hours and making little income.
You may not believe it but if I were to add up the hours and divide them by the amount of earned commission via affiliate marketing I was making, it would have been less than $1 an hour.
Can you imagine working for less than $1 an hour?
But it worked for others so it must work for me, I thought. I was determined and like any new venture, sometimes things just don’t work out the way you expect, and then when you have a little experience and confidence with what you’re doing, things change.
Remember I was only doing this part-time. It was a slow progress.
I was working hard and long hours, but I was earning Affiliate Marketing commissions and I still had the comfort and security of my main full-time role.
You could do exactly the same.
Find a few hours each week, put in a little extra effort and get started. What may start small can become an extra slice of income each month without you having to find a second part-time job or take on more overtime at work.
And, you can do it from your own home. No travelling!
I am not saying you will become rich. I am not saying it’s easy.
Many individuals give up.
So where do you go to find products to promote and sell.
I started off at ClickBank.
You sign-up, you choose your product to promote (make sure it is a product that sells well) and you add the link to your site. Whenever you sell something, ClickBank does the rest. Two weeks later you get a check with your sales commissions. ClickBank do take a small commission but it’s worth it. Everything is automatic and completed for you.
Another great thing with ClickBank is that you can track statistics like how many people purchased, who has purchased and your commissions.
That way you can see if a product is selling or not. If not, move on, start a new campaign with a different product.
