Seize the Day
Regret.
What a horrible word.
It’s a word that makes all of us cringe. And most or our lives are filled with more regret than we care to recall.
And there are two kinds of regret: regretting what we’ve done, and regretting what we’ve never done.
Think back to that crush you had back in school. The one that went on for years, yet you never told the person about it. Perhaps you even had a chance and it seemed like your crush might like you too, but you were too scared to make a move. Now you’ll never know what might have been.
Most likely you’ve had some other dream (or perhaps dreams – plural) that you’ve let fade slowly into the blackness behind you. Now you wish you’d just gone for it. Perhaps you’d be in a better place, living a better life. Who knows? You certainly don’t because you never went for it.
Now, that’s regret.
But you know what? You can’t change that. You can’t go back into the past despite how much you might wish you can. All you can do is control the future by doing everything you can today.
So stop regretting the past – you can’t change it anyway – and stop breeding future regrets. Decide right now that you’re going to seize the day and go for it. No more excuses. No more waiting. You are going to make things happen this very day.
You know, the biggest different between you and the guy or girl who’s successful is probably that he or she took a risk and went for it, and you didn’t.
My roommate from college is a perfect example of someone who went for it. Right out of college – back in the 1990s – a family friend offered him a job with Xerox making a decent income. He turned it down because it wasn’t what he wanted to do. He wanted to work on his own project – designing computer software. I told him he was nuts (this was before computers were extremely huge). He just shook his head and said if he didn’t do it right away then he’d become content with some other job and never be truly happy.
Well, fast forward to today and my friend is part owner of a multi-million dollar software company. He seized the day and went for it. And he’s now living in a big house, setting his own hours, and doing what he loves.
The same opportunities are out there for you. Whether you’re into Internet Marketing or some other line of business. Don’t settle for contentment with something you don’t really want to be doing. Reach for you dreams. Not tomorrow or even later tonight. Do it now!
Seize the day! Stop making excuses. Stop waiting. Just go for it. Remember there is no greater regret than that for which we did not do.
