So, What Are Landing Pages?
Marketers and advertisers new to the web often do not understand that promoting a website is more than building up a great home page. When marketers ask me, "what is a landing page?" I simply point out to them the fact that they never before tried to do everything with a single page flier, right?
Once you start adding too many options, visitors get lost, or worse, bored. It only takes seven seconds to lose even the most motivated shopper!
So what's a landing page? A landing page is a page on your website that is designed, or optimized, for a specific task or duty. It may be an informational page, a product page, or a sales letter.
Rather than trying to show everything you have to offer a landing page is designed with one purpose in mind. [spin] While these kinds of pages look very different form one another, they all have this in common: they are designed to do one thing, and only one thing. The page is designed to pass visitors through and perform one task: click through, sign in, or cash out. If they don't want to, they drop off the page.|
Landing pages are also great for search engine optimization. They are different than the homepage which is more like "everything and the kitchen sink; instead landing pages are focused for one or two key terms or phrases.
So even the best internet marketing strategies are incomplete without some thought about which landing pages are being targeted. Having landing page strategies are important. Be clear with your design, your pathways, and your intentions for the visitors.
