Website Visitor Retention

Without website visitor retention you won't even make enough online to pay for your internet access! When people come to your website chances are slim that they're going to stick around for more than a few seconds unless you GRAB THEM BY THE THROAT and give them a reason to stay. If not, they click away and you don't have a chance at making a sale (no matter how good your product might be). Chances are, unless you got them to opt-in to your email list before they clicked away, that they're never coming back.  How Rude!

It's sad but true and it can be very frustrating, especially since you've taken the time, worked hard and spent big bucks on advertising to get them there in the first place. The truth of the matter is that most visitors hit your site, take a quick glance and if nothing grabs their attention they leave without ever giving it a second thought. This is where website visitor retention comes into play!

Did you know that most websites don't even hit a one-percent conversion rate!

That means that if one hundred people visit your website chances are only one of them will make a purchase, if you even hit that 1%. Chances are even better that without website visitor retention strategies they will leave without purchasing anything and probally never come back again. They will forget all about your site within a few short minutes; sometimes seconds and all of your advertising dollars and your hard work were for nothing.

It's sad but it's one of the cruel facts of doing business online. If you don't  practice visitor retention and give your visitors a reason to hang around or better yet a reason to bookmark your website and come back again then you're pretty much dead in the water.

Please don't get discouraged and run away and jump off a bridge. It's not the end of the world, the fat lady has not yet sungr! There are website visitor retention techniques that you can use to make sure that you once you've invested themoney,  time and effort it takes to attract visitors that you can keep them around to see what you have to offer, and even get them to come back again in the future.

The first thing you need to do is give them killer content focused on the topic of your website. If you're selling an ebook for dog owners then provide information on dogs, not birds or cows. Great content gives them a reason to stick around and hopefully buy what you're offering (either on this visit or a furture visit).

The next thing you can do to boost your website visitor retention is to find a way to keep in touch with your visitors. Offer them a free report or something else of value to have them join your list. If you can capture their attention over an extended period of time them you will have a much better chance of converting them into paying a customer.

NOTE:  As you may have noticed we've lost all our old content, however, if you don't currently have a list, be sure to keep coming back to this blog because we'll be covering list strategies in the near future. If you need help on getting set up with a list right away just use the contact page to get in touch with me and I'll try to help the best I can.

Did you know that the average person must be exposed to an offer around seven times before they will make a purchase?

Big companies know this. That's why when you are sitting in front of the TV munching on popcorn you will see the same commercials repeated over and over in the same time slot.

One more thing you can do to help website visitor retention is to make your website more fun and interactive. Make it interesting and give them a reason to stick around. Think about a website like MySpace… Not only do they provide a place where people can meet and get to know each other, they have videos, forums, polls, classifieds and more. That is the ultimate example of a website that is using every tool they can to keep their visitor retention high.

We'll discuss more techniques in furure posts, but the general idea is…

GRAB YOUR VISITOR'S ATTENTION FAST AND KEEP IT!
